The Master Beekeeper level of the Texas Master Beekeeping Program is focused on developing expert-level beekeepers who can lead and mentor within the community. Becoming a Master Beekeeper is a significant achievement that reflects years of dedication, learning, and practical experience in the field of beekeeping. It represents a deep understanding of advanced beekeeping practices, enabling individuals to contribute meaningfully to the beekeeping community and mentor others. This prestigious designation not only enhances the credibility of the beekeeper but also fosters a commitment to promoting bee health and sustainable practices.
To become a master beekeeper, candidates must demonstrate and document an additional 15 public service credits beyond those required for the Advanced level. These credits encourage active community involvement, with each one helping you further hone your expertise.
Master candidates must also declare a major from a list of specialized topics, such as honey bee pests or pollination ecology, and demonstrate expertise by completing three credits within that major.
In addition, candidates must complete five “core” credits outside of their declared major, which can come from other specialized areas outside of their major. These requirements replace the previous practical documentation component, ensuring that beekeepers have a broad and deep knowledge base.
Finally, candidates must also pass a written exam, scoring 70% or higher. This exam covers a wide range of topics, including material from past Texas Beekeepers Association conferences, resources from the Texas Apiary Inspection Service, and additional readings found on the Master Beekeeper reading list.
